Meet your captain, Krissi Evans

Captain Krissi Evans Custom Boat Charter Captain

We are a company founded on a passion for the incredible ecosystems and sites of Eastern North Carolina. As a native of the Tarheel state Captain Krissi was raised in the rivers, lakes, waterways, and marshes that surrounded her home. This unique childhood fueled a desire to share these wonderful places with others.

After attaining a degree in Marine Technology from Cape Fear Community College she decided to gain some hands-on experience by traveling across the world to live in a squid fishing village in Cambodia. There she earned her Dive Master certification while assisting in a study on seahorse nurseries and conservation through cultivation. She also helped to implement a Marine protected area near the island of Koh Rong Samloem, and worked with some of the young women and mothers in the village to learn the basics of the English language.

Upon returning home after almost two years abroad, Krissi got a job as an observer for the Department of Marine Fisheries where she furthered her knowledge of local ecosystems and species. It was during this time that she decided she wanted to get her Bachelor of Science in Environmental studies from UNCW. While attending UNCW Krissi worked for a local company as a captain for a boat club and solidified her passion in introducing others to boating, and creating fun and exciting events on the water.

Thus Carolina Salt Custom Charter Company was born. Krissi saw a need in our local area to provide a space for anyone to feel welcomed into the boat world without judgement or fear, and to do so in a conscious manner. As a new mom she also saw a need for a female focused business that specialized in curating more experiences than just the typical fishing charter. She brings an eye for the details and a lifetime in the service industry to the local charter industry. You can feel confident that your experience will be everything you dreamed.

FAQS

What should I wear and bring for the boat tour?

We recommend wearing comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing. Layers are a good idea, as temperatures can change on the water. Don't forget sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat for sun protection. Flat, closed-toe shoes with non-slip soles are essential for safety.
